Description

This module focuses on the critical aspects of network security and troubleshooting, equipping participants with the tools and techniques necessary to safeguard and maintain resilient digital infrastructures. Through a blend of theory and practical exercises, learners will explore network vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies. We will also  have a look behind the screens and explore what is actually protecting a full system. This means that we will explain required background on cryptographic primitives, protocols and implementation threats. Finally, regulatory frameworks that shape modern cybersecurity practices (ISO, NIS2, GDPR) will be discussed.

Course content
  • Network Security Essentials and network troubleshooting: Identifying common vulnerabilities (unauthorized access, data interception), Mitigation techniques (firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for secure communication), Utilizing diagnostic tools and structured methodologies.
  • Cryptography Fundamentals: Overview of cryptographic primitives and protocols, implementation threats
  • Security Regulations: Understanding GDPR, ISO27001, and NIS2 compliance requirements.: Understanding GDPR, ISO27001, and NIS2 compliance requirements.

Learning outcomes
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities.
  • Apply troubleshooting techniques to resolve network issues.
  • Understand and implement secure cryptographic protocols/mechanisms.
  • Navigate and apply relevant security regulations in IT systems.
